1. What versions should I be running for Synchronization?
We recommend version 4.5 for all synchronization. 4.5 should exist on both iPhone and Mac sides. These versions are free upgrades from the previous versions. |
2. I've got my data on my Mac. What's the easiest way to just get it over to my iPhone for Sync?
- On your iPhone, push the Synchronize button to place the iPhone in to sync mode.
- On the Mac, from the menu "File" → "Synchronize with Network"
- If your iPhone appears in the sources list, select it and remove it.
- Push "Add Synchronization Source" and select "Add iPhone Source".
- Select your iPhone from the list and push "Add"
- Your default file should appear along with your device's name.
- Push "Upload all files to the source..."
- You're done.

3. How can I check my Software Firewall on Mac OS X?
On Mac OS X 10.5, you can turn off your software firewall here:
System Settings → Security → Firewall → Allow all incoming connections. |
4. My Mac sees my iPhone and my iPhone sees my Mac, but when I select either one, nothing happens. What can I do?
Even with a firewall enabled, sometimes two devices on a network can "see" each other, but can't communicate.
To be sure your firewall is off, both in Mac OS X and your router. See: Disabling your firewall.

5. I'm syncing and PasswordWallet says my passwords don't match. What's up with that?
If your passwords do match, you shouldn't get this error. So verify the following:
- That you are indeed syncing the files you intend to, and not a file in a different folder by the same name. (This alternate file may have a different password.)
- That you are not using your keychain password on the device, but the actual password for the PasswordWallet document.
|
6. I have a file on my Mac and a file on my iPhone and they're not syncing! They appear to have the same name and password. What's going on?
PasswordWallet synchronizes files on your Mac with files on your iPhone. The file names on both platforms must be identical.
Verify:
- Be extra sure the capitalization of the files is the same. A file named "MyPasswords" does not equal "mypasswords".
- Also check the file extensions. File extensions are the parts of the file name after the "." character. On the Mac Get Info on your file to be sure it has an extension that matches the iPhone. (The Finder does not always display extensions on a Mac!) And on the iPhone jump in to the rename screen to see the extension, if there is one.

7. I've confirmed the other items in this FAQ, my Mac can see my iPhone and my iPhone can see my Mac, but I still can't sync.
You have a network problem. For some reason your router, your wireless network, or both, are preventing your two devices from seeing each other over your network. Check the following:
- Just in case, restart your iPhone by holding down the power button for a few seconds.
- Many users have had success after restarting their router or base stations. Just unplug and replug it.
- Be sure your Mac and iPhone have IP addresses on the same subnet: e.g.: 192.168.2.x, where the first three numbers are the same on your iPhone and Mac.
- If all else fails, some users have had good luck setting up a Computer-to-Computer network through the Network control panel. A computer to computer network can be created from your WiFi icon on your menubar "Create network". Your computer will then show up in your iPhone's WiFi settings. This is detailed in Mac Help.

8. My device is on the network, but it has a funny generic name like "Device.7213521372.local". And Sync isn't working.
Odd device names are indicative that the discovery mechanism PasswordWallet uses between Mac and iPhone (called Bonjour) has gone to lunch.
One possible way to fix this is to rename your iPhone in iTunes to something simple. Try to avoid special unicode characters like ø.
After completing the above step, reboot all of the computers, devices and routers on your network, including your iPhone (hold down its power button for a few seconds.) |
9. My iPhone is on the synchronization screen and the iPhone says "No servers found".
- Be sure you're running PasswordWallet 4.4 or later for Mac OS X.
- Be sure PasswordWallet 4.4 is running on your Mac.
- Be sure "Enable network synchronization" is turned on in the Synchronization Setup window.
- If these are all correct, then you have a network problem. Be sure your firewall is off, both in Mac OS X and your router. See: Disabling your firewall.
|
10. My Mac is open to Synchronization Setup and my iPhone does not appear under "Available servers".
- Be sure PasswordWallet on the iPhone is on the Synchronization screen.
- Be sure "Enable network synchronization" is turned on in the Synchronization Setup window in PasswordWallet for Mac OS X.
- If these are all correct, then you have a network problem. Be sure your firewall is off, both in Mac OS X and your router. See: Disabling your firewall.
|
11. I have a bunch of data on my iPhone and I want to transfer it to my Mac.
- Create a PasswordWallet file on your Mac with the exact same name as the file on your iPhone.
- In the synchronization preferences add this file to Step 2 on the mac to your iPhone.
- The next time you sync your data will be brought down from the iPhone and "synced" in to the blank file from step 1.
|
12. My records are duplicating when I sync to the iPhone!
After 7 months of work we updated 4.3.5 to 4.4.0. It was a complete overhaul of the foundation of PasswordWallet. We had one bug (the only one reported thus far) that caused the duplication on sync.
The bug was introduced 4.4.0 and fixed in 4.4.1 within one week.
To fix the problem, do the following:
- Delete all files form the iPhone.
- Open and save all of your files on the Mac in PasswordWallet. (This will automatically repair the problem.)
- While the file is open, you can easily select duplicates from the Edit → Find → Select Duplicates menu item.
- Delete these duplicates and re-sync with your iPhone.
|
13. Sync with my iPhone worked yesterday but isn't working today.
Restart your WiFi. |
14. How do I move a file from my Mac to my iPhone? I followed the instructions and it's not working.
- Clear all pairings on the iPhone from the Synchronize screen.
- Clear all items from step 2 in Synchronization Setup on the mac by pushing the "-" button on all lines.
- Add your iPhone in step 1.
- Add the file you want to copy to the iPhone in step 2.
- On the iPhone, push "Synchronize" and select your mac.
|
15. I have my USB cable attached and sync isn't working.
Unfortunately Apple does not allow third party developers to sync their data over the USB cable. So you can just un-plug it. All synchronization of PasswordWallet data is done over your WiFi network. (If you don't have a WiFi network you cannot sync.)
Your iPhone will be connected via WiFi. Your Mac can be connected by ethernet cable or WiFi. |
